ARTIST STATEMENT

Rachel Delmotte’s artistic practice explores transformation, self-invention, and the pursuit of clarity through a feminist lens. Rooted in printmaking, her work blends vibrant color, layered imagery, and illustrative iconography to build alternate worlds where identity can shift, soften, or be fully reimagined.

Raised in the suburbs of Detroit and shaped by a background in design, Delmotte draws from both personal and cultural memory—infusing surreal landscapes with symbolic objects and gestural marks that blur the boundaries between the inner self and outer world. Her expressions dance between precision and play, inviting viewers into a space of emotional resonance and speculative possibility.

Currently pursuing an MFA in Print Media at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Delmotte’s practice weaves together psychological, narrative, and feminist frameworks. Her work invites reflection on what it means to become—and to unbecome—in the face of expectation, desire, and transformation.
